Hi All, I joined this group in hopes that I could meet some of you and go diving in Canada....I am an experienced diver but when it comes to cold water in Canada, not so much. I would like to organize a trip to Tobermory for some diving and camping but more importantly I think it would be fun if we just meetup for coffee or something to discuss about our experiences, get to know one another ect. I would like to propose July 9th sometime in the afternoon in HighPark area for a meetup. Let me know what you all think, or perhaps we can organize a dive trip in Brockville or even Toronto

Hi Anne-Marie, thanks for getting a meet up going. My wife an I just had our baby so diving was not possible for us. We'd love to get back in to it and plan some local diving. Brockville might be the warmest now :). Let us check to see if we can open up our calendars for the 9th. If the 9th does not work then we'll find another day!

Would like to attend, but I'm a warm water diver myself. Not too keen on diving cold water (brrr) but would love to meet up for a coffee and talk diving :). I'd like to get into dive photography so anyone who's an expert on that would be great to hear from them... ie. a dive photography seminar? or a seminar on dive photography equipment?

Hi Guys, so I put in July 9th 2pm I am thinking we could all meet at the restaurant in the middle of highpark. Let me know if the time is not good, I am pretty flexible. Cindy, as for photography, I completed a padi photography course. To be honest I just find practice makes better. I love underwater photography and videos.,sharks are just too fast for photograpghy sometimes.
I am also planning a camping/diving trip to Tobermory for weekend of Aug 19-20. we can discuss more on July 9th.

Prasenjit, toby in July or Aug in a 7ml is still pretty darn chilly once you get down to depth. Best off to go dry if you have a dry suit of which I don't.

    I dont either'!

A brave soul tries to answer the question of water temp. in Tobermory:

    http://www.diversden.ca/temperature.html

In August it is 10 C for depth dives which is pretty cold. Hyporthermia in 1 hr.

    http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hypothermia.htm

Except for some few exceptions, most of the wrecks in the area are in deep waters.

Questions to Divers Den in Tobermory:

Is Tobermory too cold for 7 ml wetsuit for most of the wreck dives?
Do you recommend a dry suit?
Do you also supply hoods with the wetsuits rental?

"We have 7 mill rental suits with hoods/boots/gloves .

In Aug even the deeper dives are fine with a wet suit.

    Hope this helps"

As for the date for this meet up in the city, can we push it to the 16th or coming Saturday? My wife and I have commitments on the 9th :(
Location: everyone good with High Park? We are flexible.
Tobermory: we love to dive there but it might not be a great first Ontario dive for those who normally dive the tropics. 10C in 7mm is not impossible. Just freezing :) Brockville / 100o islands perhaps? Temperatures range from 15 to over 20 celsius in August. Distance is about the same.

High Park is good but prefer weekdays as I commute from the west end to downtown. On weekends prefer west end.

A very valid point abt cold Georgian Bay. 1000 islands is a much better idea - 25C, even at 100ft deep in the summer months. See http://www.adventuresportsholidays.com/articles/scuba-div...

Sounds good. Wednesday evening. After work with some time to eat first? 7:30? I am thinking of nice places to sit with a group on King or Queen west. Firkin? We'll compare notes on Brockville and plan that together as well as just hang out and get to know each other.

Hi guys, Please keep me posted about your decision on going diving to Brockville. I'm interested but can't come to the meeting on july 6th. I never dived in Canada and also use to warm water diving but why not... :-)

Allard, keep me posted as well. I cannot make this Wednesday either, I am preparing to go away on vacation. But I would certainly be interested in what the group has come up with re: Brockville.
