Brockville, 1000 islands weekend

**back to the original date of 8/20**.

Please respond by Monday, July 25 so we can finalize everything with the operator.

Date and time
The diving will be on Saturday and Sunday. Because diving will start early on Saturday, we recommend coming to Brockville on Friday. The drive is about 4 hours.

The diving
This is the warmest diving in Ontario! With temperatures over 20 celsius (70F) it's balmy for local diving. A good introduction for tropical divers.  The diving is in the picturesque 1000 islands region in the St. Lawrence River system. The river has been important for transportation for many centuries which means tons of wrecks. Some dives would require Advanced Open Water which not everyone has. Just let us know and we will make sure there is great diving for all.

Equipment
You can rent with the operator or If you have your own gear of course bring it. Recommended is 5mm or 7mm wetsuit. Less than that is not feasible for most. A hood is optional. Because the prolific zebra mussel, gloves are highly recommend. The shells can be everywhere and too sharp to touch with bare hands. If you would like to dive with Nitrox, let us know.

Getting there
For now we are assuming that everyone will have their own transportation. If you have an extra spot in your car you would like to share or are looking for a ride, let us know and we'll do our best to connect people.

Staying overnight
We'll have two options: camping or staying in a hotel:
Hotels:  http://www.divebrockville.com/accommodation...
Campsites: http://www.visit1000islands.com/listings-09...
t=&location=lansdowne
(Thank you Anne-Marie for the research!)

Costs
The idea is to keep things affordable. We will try to see if we can get a group arrangement for the diving and special rate for a hotel if there are enough people coming. Final costs for the diving and hotel will be posted after we have an idea who is going (by Monday, July 25).

I talked to Chalet Cabins cottage resort and they have availability.

A 2 bedroom cottage with two separate bedrooms and a kitchen sitting room. There is 1 bed in each room and a single in the kitchen sitting room. $85 nightly.

There is also a one room cabin with a queen bed and full kitchen facilities. $70 nightly.

    See more here: http://www.chaletcabins.ca/accommodations.html

I prefer cottages to motels as you can cook and they have better waterfronts - this one is on the lake.

@Cindy: cold, warm: it's all relative :). I think over time we should expand the temperature of outings. Caribbean in the winter? Tobermory in the summer?

@Anne-Marie, Pras: those cabins are looking more appetizing than our tent now. I'll do the headcount on Tuesday and we can see if they can make a deal for us.

@Ruba: the costs will be about $75-$100 per day per person for the boat depending on how many people are coming. Other costs are the stay, tank rental optional gear rental.

Allard, a few things are not too clear for me....#1, what is the cost with Seaway and what does it include, how many dives, is lunch served ect.....tank rental 69$?how many tanks is that? Also a friend of mine may join in depending on price ect....so once I know all the logistics I will let her know .

Pras: I need car pool also but dont have car so dont mind going up with you and pitching in.....same goes for room, the 2 bedroom cabin works.....

Andy: If you need a refresher I am certified to give you one....What we can do is just go in lake Ontario on a weekend in the shalow area by sunny side beach there is no current it is practically considered confined water. We can go over the 20 skills you need to know... all I will ask is that you pay my rental tank......

Anne-Marie: I just spoke with operator, SWV. The costs are $95 per day for 3 days and includes lunch. The tank rental at $69 gives you 3 tanks, six fills fits the weekend. There is space to add a friend so hopefully it works out

Hey all, I won't be able to make this trip. In fact my dive season for this year ended three weeks ago today. My husband and I were in a horrific motorcycle accident on I79 in Pittsburgh PA. We are lucky to be alive. Play safe, dive hard :)
