All - let's start planning local diving for this year. We'd love to dive in the following places:
- Tobermory (colder and deeper, likely more later in the season)
- Closeby Quarry for a Saturday or Sunday (earlier in the season, likely to be warmer)
- Lake Ontario (it's right there!)
- 1000 Islands. Can be earlier in the season, it's a warmer location. We are thinking of combining this with and advanced course.
Anyone experience with water temperatures and an idea when these sites are warm enough to do with a wetsuite? Share your thoughts!

I don't think we need to worry about wetsuits. It is OK to dive these places in 2 x 7mm wet suit. Temperatures are cold and colder so it is just a matter of tolerance. Even in August if you go deep enough it will not be warm (below termacline).

You are mentioning "combining with advanced course ". Who is getting their advanced certificates and how is it organized? Most of proposed dives are advanced 80'+.

If we plan to dive in quarries then it should be early in the season while visibility (algae) is still OK.

I can recommend diving in Picton (Prince Edward County). It is close to Toronto, water is always clear (and cold of course), wrecks are unbelievable (best site to dive in Ontario in my opinion). We should plan weekend there but should be quick to book charter while it is still available. There are spartan bungalows (kitchen, bathroom, bunk beds) that we could rent.

I'd like to see if anybody is interested in diving on Manitoulin island (ferry from Tobermory or by car through Sudbury). Lots of great wrecks and not as busy as other dive sites. Island itself is a jewel and there is lot to be seen there even if you don't dive.

It would be great if we could dive in Brockville and Picton too.

Let's see what people are interested in and we can start from there.

Some worry more about cold than others ;). I would not go out today with a double 7mm for example. Going under the second thermocline in Dutch Springs, NJ at 10C was already borderline cold for me! Having said that, we can organize trips with different cold ratings. Some are more experienced with cold and others need some more warming up to the idea of cooler water diving. I can try to find it on the internet but do you have ideas of average water temperatures in the different thermoclines in the different locations throughout the year?

Nicole and I are thinking of getting dry suite certified this year or next year and she would still like to get her advanced open water which would likely be in Brockville with Aquarius Scuba. We heard many good things about Brockville.

We were in Picton last year and did not get to dive there. Do you have more information about diving there? It's nice southern province vacationing there though. For a little bit more you can also stay in a B&B like we did.

ROFL. Then you have very limited number of places (and days in a year) to dive in Ontario. 10C is probably the warmest you can expect in the summer.

In Picton area check out www.ducksdive.com for diving. Great people. You can either get B&B (you'll have to wake up really early to get to the boarding place in time) or stay at Ducks Dive (across the street from the lake).
